Informix spins off PeopleSoft business unit
By Maria Seminerio

Database technology developer Informix Software Inc. today announced the launch of a new business unit to focus on joint product development and marketing efforts with client/server applications maker PeopleSoft Inc.

Informix's PeopleSoft unit, to be headquartered in Menlo Park, Calif., will also focus on increasing global market share for the companies' corporate solutions, officials of both companies said.

The new unit will debut next year a consulting program for joint customers, to be known as the PeopleSoft Quick-Start Consulting Solutions program, officials said.

Starting next year, the companies will deploy dedicated customer service staffs at Informix's Menlo Park headquarters, for handling requests from customers running PeopleSoft applications with Informix databases, officials said.

Some Informix officials will also be relocated to PeopleSoft's Pleasanton, Calif., headquarters to ensure faster turnaround on joint customers' service requests, the companies said.

PeopleSoft is among the first companies developing applications for Informix's upcoming Universal Server, the companies said.
