Microsoft Corp. and Cisco Systems Inc. will submit to the Internet Engineering Task Force today a proposal for extended LDAP to work more smoothly in an environment with several servers.
The Multimaster Replication Protocol Specification would allow changes to be made from any server in a directory service environment using the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol, according to group product manager Enzo Schiano.
Currently, LDAP only allows for replication from a single designated master server.
"That means if the single master is down, you can't update your directory," Schiano said.
