AT&T; and Mondex to make micropayment announcement at Internet World

  AT&T; Corp. will introduce an Internet micropayment system at Internet World next week, according to sources who said the company is working with Mondex International.

The announcement will also involve AT&T;'s Universal card division, sources said.

AT&T; is one of the member institutions behind Mondex USA. Other members of the initiative include Chase Manhattan, Dean Witter Discover (NOVUS), First Chicago NBD, MasterCard, Michigan National Bank and Wells Fargo.

Also, AT&T; will announce a deal with a major bank involving electronic commerce.

Mondex USA is a consortium that is attempting to gain acceptance for the deployment of the Mondex electronic cash technology in the United States.
