Digital to demo new AlphaServer package and NT clustering technology
By James Gruener

Digital Equipment Corp. next week is expected to unveil its latest 64-bit AlphaServer system package geared to the Internet.

The company will demo the new server along with enhanced failover technology for NT clustering at Internet World '97 in Los Angeles the following week, according to sources.

Although details about the AlphaServer and the new clustering technology were not available, the sources said the server will offer increased speed, ease of use and security over previous Internet servers offered by the company.

In December, Digital announced three out-of-the-box "Internet-Energized" packages based on 64-bit systems. The systems offered enhanced system management and clustering capabilities.

The NT failover technology could foreshadow a new clustering strategy offered to users, sources said. No timetable for that strategy has been released.
